50th Anniversary of Holy Cross Catholic Church 1968 – 2018
“Bringing Christ to People and People to Christ since 1909”
In 1909, Bishop Cornelius Van de Ven formed the Apostleship of Prayer League of the Sacred Heart for the Catholic students attending the State Normal School in Natchitoches, LA. His Excellency then established a Newman Club on campus in 1925. In 1953, Bishop Charles P. Greco erected the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center with a student center on one side and a chapel on the other, which serves as our main building to this day. On Feb. 11, 1968, Bishop Greco established Holy Cross as a non-territorial parish for campus ministry at Northwestern State University. Since then Holy Cross has grown over the years with faithful parishioners supporting our campus ministry to NSU students. We give thanks to God for 109 years of campus ministry, 65 years as a student center, and 50 years as a parish community.
